So I haven't been sleeping much for about....

edited April 2011 in Life
3 years and 4 months now... I used to have nightmares but after a not too considerable time stopped dreaming entirely.

Basically, my query is this: does anybody have any experience with insomnia problems? Or even anything that helps improve alertness and/or memory? Preferably not something too BLTC-ey, as I've tried many things in that vein.

I started seeing a therapist last week, but it looks like it'll be slow-goings, and the shit is hella expensive.

If any of you know anything about the subject I'd appreciate it. At this point I'd settle for lulzy stories as well, I guess.

Much obliged,

TBZ

I took some pills for sleep and it didn't work. Right now I can feel I need to sleep but I am forcing myself awake. I am working on trying to reset my sleep timings. I think you should try meditation and keep awake from Computer/TV and any distraction. Try this and it just might work.

Don't take pills, their main goal is to make you pass out and they skip one of the most important sleeping cycles(REM).

My best bet: take melatonin supplements. The main reason why you cannot sleep (IMO) is because you are lacking Melatonin. Do you leave your light on often when you sleep? Have you forced yourself to stay awake for any reason? when were the first signs did you think you had insomnia?

There are melatonin supplements out there. Some are synthetically made, which are good. Some are from animal bi-products. That means, they took a brain, and smashed it up to extract melatonin. If you are not sure what melatonin is, i guess i'll explain more if you are interested, or you can look it up :o

Listen to good Jazz music. I try to sleep to music whenever I can, and it helps me go to sleep. I prefer Jazz music though, because it's not something I listen to often, so I don't get into enough that it keeps me awake, but it's still pleasant:) Also, stay away from that smooth jazz bullshit:mad:

hahahaha an interesting array of responses... I guess I'll have to get to work experimenting:fap:
    take melatonin supplements

Damn... will my skin get darker too? Don't wanna git adult onset Re-vitaligo hahaha... Also, don't melatonin supplements (mb it's just injections?) give you erections?

I have in the past stayed up for school assignments... But mostly it's not intentional. A lot of time I can't actually fall asleep for 1-2 hrs... And I NEVER sleep over six hrs; it might be worth noting I kind of go through phases where the max I can get is minimal (usually 2-3 hrs), and 5-6 hrs is what I consider 'good' sleep.

I first noticed I couldn't sleep more than a few hrs a night if at all January 3 years ago. Oh well.

I had sleeping issues for the longest time when i went to the doctor where they got me on some pills. I will say the first set of pills knocked me out and it was hard to wake up the next day. The second round of pills were less strong but i am super happy about not having to take them often now. I say dont go the pill route unless you really need it. Try melatonin but i heard people have crazy dreams while taking that.

Try melatonin but i heard people have crazy dreams while taking that.

    That means it's working.

Melatonin is a hormone produced in the body that helps start the REM cycle in your sleep. REM cycle is the most important sleep cycle in the body as it does a lot of things that deal with growth, repair, and function of immune systems, muscles, and other things.

On a side note, yes, sleeping pills are habit forming, and often skip the rem cycle because it just knocks you out. Melatonin supplements are not habit forming, and it allows natural sleep to occur.

The reason we need 8 hours of sleep is because the brain needs to create melatonin to start the REM sleep cycle. What i am saying is, if you can get enough melatonin for your body, you only need about 4 hours of sleep (estimating) to feel fine the next day. Hence, pure melatonin supplements are very good.

lol..it does not turn your skin brown, and i don't know about the erection thing:rolleyes: lol either way when i take melatonin..i wake up with an erection..sometimes i don't. Maybe it's dependant on the dream..who knows

Hahaha I only ask cuz a long time ago I read that before Viagra, the only option for ED treatment was melatonin injections.... And, fyi, Viagra was originally conceptualized to help people's blood flow... ie in hiking high altitude n whatnot... It was only once trials began they learned of its other abilities as a boner-pill... Much to the joy of their shareholders I'm sure.

Can you get Melatonin OTC? If not, I'll have to get a hold of my doctor.....

Once again, thanks for all the helpful advice.

If you decide to take melatonin supplements makes sure:

    1) It is only pure melatonin (preferrably synthetic melatonin(and not made from animal bi-product); no other chemicals are necessary)

    2) take it right when you go to sleep. Put it under your toungue so it gets absorbed faster into the blood stream.
Once again, thanks for all the helpful advice.

Thank you for sharing your situation

If there's something that's bothering you and keeping you from sleeping, it could be a while until it gets better. You should use sleep aids to help you get to bed.

Just came back from running. My heads feels like shit, I am sweating and my body is begging me for sleep. It's 6:20 AM and I woke up around 2 Pm. I decided to reverse my timings. Now I sleep around 7 Am and wake up around 10-11 AM and then work and keep this up for now. I will need to set my workout timings but man it feels good fucking your own body.

It's a compromise if you ask me. I tried my best to sleep early but it just doesn't work. I came to terms with it and now I am trying to work everything around it. FUCK drugs they don't work me. REM HERE I COME!
