Bump keys

What tools are used in the creation of a bump key?

Would a file suffice?

Also, can generic bump key open any lock, or would it have to resemble the original key?

Picking is ehhh. Ramming it in seems much easier.

Wdf, you have to carry a mallet to do it?

You need something to "bump" the key.

I found out that a triangular file works best. Basically, you need two things:

    1. Blank (or unused key)
    2. Triangular file.

Generally speaking, the blank or unused key that you will use should be designed to work on the lock that you want to bump. In addition, lock bumping is designed to work on pin tumbler locks, which is roughly 90% of all the locks in the world. They can't work on certain bump-proof locks that have sidebars on them. They also won't work on locks that don't have pins inside them.

I found those information at this site about how to bump a lock. They have a lot of free resources on the subject.
