No we all know a cell phone charger plugs into AC in your house right? Well I was thinking because car phone chargers plug into 12v DC in your car. Could i just wire an extension lead to my car battery to charge my phone with its home wall charger?

What voltage does your charger output? If its 5 volts, an LM7805 voltage regulator will work. You can get them from Jaycar for like $1.50. I'm not sure if Dick Smith still has electronic components, I know the one here doesn't.

    No.

Your wall charger works like any other wall wart. A transformer to drops the AC voltage to a reasonable level, a rectifier turns it into DC, and a regulator regulates the output voltage. The DC voltage runs the charging circuit in your phone. You could use a LM7805 as suggested above. If you have a USB charging cable for your phone I would suggest getting something like this from deal extreme or another site. It most likely uses a LM7805.
