After Dell, Hp and even Macs, I have decided Sony

Wanted to go with Samsung but they don't offer much options and Sony is stylish and a known brand, although some people hate it and it's known to be quite EVIL when it comes to it's user base but it does make some decent Laptops. Following are my shortlisted choices.

[h=3]Overview[/h]
Work hard, play harder.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN DIMENSION.
Get HD entertainment that goes wherever you do, all wrapped up in a high-octane laptop that was born to perform. Boasting an optional 16.4' Full HD 1080p widescreen display, you can view your movies in crystal-clear high def, plus juggle multiple web pages and photos with ease. 'It's pretty much the multimedia laptop of the year.' Engadget, VAIO F Series, Jan. 5, 2011.
PURE POWER.
Tackle everything multimedia with warp speed and responsiveness. Featuring a top-of-the-line 2nd generation Intel Core i7 quad core processor, NVIDIA graphics, up to 8GB of RAM and a 7200rpm hard drive or optional solid state drive, this laptop packs serious firepower. Pick an application-it'll handle it with ease. Editing HD video? No problem. Gaming? Just switch to 2D mode and hang on. Plus, an available 750GB6 hard drive provides plenty of room for all your videos, music, photos and files.

SENSATIONAL SOUND.418924_183275005108928_100002792897202_199411_1712051513_n.jpg
Who says you need a complete home theater system to enjoy amazing audio? With Dolby Home Theater technology v4 and an advanced set of audio tools, you'll be blown away by simulated 5-channel surround sound and an extended stereo effect. And with bass-boosting speakers seamlessly built in to the integrated speaker bar, you get incredible audio in a portable package.

SEE THE LIGHT.
Working late tonight? The backlit keyboard features LED illumination for a remarkable view of the keys. Perfect for typing in bed with the lights turned down, a pleasant glow shines through the characters themselves as well as between the keys-framing them with soft illumination that helps minimize typos. An ambient light sensor even automatically turns the backlight on or off based on the light around you.
SPARK YOUR CREATIVITY.

Select F Series come with Imagination Studio Multimedia Edition software free of charge to make creating HD movies, mixing music you've recorded and finding ways to share your creations easier than ever. Edit HD video with award-winning Vegas Movie software and check out hundreds of built-in video and audio effects. Record, edit and sweeten live audio on your home computer with Sound Forge or use ACID Music Studio to turn your F Series into the ultimate home studio. After you've achieved the perfect mix, burn CDs, DVDs or format files to share online and load onto your favorite portable players.

INTEL'S LATEST.
Whether it's HD or 3D, multitasking or multimedia, this processor handles it all with headroom to spare. Its 2nd generation Intel Core i7 quad core processor is complemented by Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.04 which adapts to your tasks automatically for maximum performance when you need it. And with four cores available (as opposed to two), you can move between applications quickly with even more power at your fingertips.

GRAPHICAL GREATNESS.
Perfect for responsive game play or serious multitasking, dedicated graphics come courtesy of NVIDIA GeForce GT540M graphics with up to 1GB of VRAM on select models. As if this PC didn't already have power to spare, these graphics help ensure that when it comes to heavy lifting, the F Series is ready to go.

NEW HD WEB CAMERA.
The F Series features an HD web camera powered by an Exmor image sensor which allows for great low-light performance. Keep in touch with family, friends and coworkers, and enjoy a more casual conversation with face tracking technology, which allows the camera to automatically adjust focus and follow you as you move around while video chatting.

HDMI 3D OUTPUT.
Effortlessly transmit your 2D or 3D content to a compatible HDTV or 3D HDTV via the HDMI output (cable and additional 3D glasses sold separately). This means that any Full HD content you can enjoy on your PC-videos, DVD Disc or 3D movies, internet TV-can be output in crystal-clear resolution for an even more immersive experience9.

CONNECT TO SONY.
Forget purchasing additional accessories to help navigate menus and options within your PS3 system, connected BRAVIA television or DVD Disc player. Sony's Remote Keyboard bridges the gap and allows you to wirelessly pair your VAIO PC's keyboard and touchpad with a bevy of Sony connected devices and use it to quickly and easily navigate menus, browse the internet and enter text.

SERIOUS CONNECTIONS.
Along with the requisite USB ports and media slots, the F Series has two USB 3.0 ports, allowing you to easily connect a compatible external hard drive for faster and more efficient data transfer. It is also equipped with Bluetooth technology. Connect compatible mice, headphones and other Bluetooth-enabled devices without having to hassle with cords and cables.
IN-HOME SERVICE.
We'll come to you. There's nothing standard about the standard Sony limited warranty on VAIO computers. To give you the ultimate in speedy and convenient service, we come to you to repair PC issues whenever possible5. Not many other PC manufacturers can match our expertise or comprehensive level of in-home support.
ACCESSORIZE YOUR LAPTOP.
Do more with your F Series laptop. Explore a wide variety of essential add-ons like cases, mice, bags and more.

Dive in.
Immerse yourself in a whole new realm of entertainment when you choose an F Series model with 3D-capabilities. Pair it with a 3D-enabled Bloggie or Cyber-shot camera, or press the laptop's 3D button to convert standard HD video, DVDs or DVD Disc content to amazing 3D-in real time, with no need to reboot. Your photos and videos will pop off the screen with the clarity and precision of Full HD 1080p.

1 Year International warranty

All of them fall under 1200 Dollars. I am mostly interested in two things: A) Screen Size/Resolution (1080p is a MUST) B) Integrated GPU (NVIDIA is a requirement).

This rig will be my portable workstation which will be used for videos, coding, writing and working while I am in the University. These are my preferred choice if the funds are short, I will either wait or lower the price to 900 or below or even 700 for the start and then later upgraded to these beasts in future.

What are your thoughts?

I brought an Acer Extensa 5620Z a few years back. It has handled the abuse I have thrown at it well. Apart from replacing the HDD and DVD drive in it and added more RAM, it has served me well. Acer make good laptops IMO. It served as my main machine for three years until I built my desktop but I still use it occasionally.

Acer has a part repo, people really think of them as cheap etc but as beaver said, don't buy into the POS Laptops and brand really doesn't matter to me. Performance does. Checking Samsung live up as well.

Both are cheaper but lack USB 3.0 which is essential for the external HDD.

Sit back and listen while I tell you a little tech story. Back around 2002 Dell started making the Optiplex 260 and about a year later the Optiplex 270 lines. Around 2004 many of these machines started to lock with a black screen ad the only way to power cycle them was to pull the AC plug out of the back of the tower to break the lock up. When you removed he cover on one of these systems that behaved in this manner a careful inspection would reveal that several small capacitors on the motherboard had swollen caps ad many times were even leaking. The problem was so prevalent in the 260/270 line that Dell leveraged $350 million of their 2005 profits to cover a special warranty program which would allow for replacement of any board so affected until January of 2007.

Now Dell was not the only company with this problem in that era. You see both HP and Apple were having the same problem on some models yet they were not using the same motherboard as Optiplex 260's and 270's. So why were they having the same problem as Dell? Well you see Dell, HP, SONY, Acer, Gateway, or any of them for that matter make anything. They purchase components and assemble them. The component manufacturers in Taiwan do not make the sub-components for their products (like capacitors). Most of the sub-components like IC's, capacitors, resistors, etc are manufactured right where they have bee since the transistor radio fad that swept the world after World War II, Japan. So what happened was a 500 buttbillion shitty capacitors were made by some nip, shipped to Taiwan, soldered to various motherboards and shipped to Dell, HP, and apple for about 2 - 3 years. Now HP and Apple never really "fessed up". Sure they honored any board that went bad during the standard warranty period but they knew that this problem was going to bite a lot of customers in the ass after the warranty expired.

What is my point in relation to this thread? Well just one more short story and we will get to that. When I was young man I worked for a short time in an egg noodle factory. They would make all the dough for the day's noodle production 1st thing in the morning. At about 1/3 of the day through they would stop the entire line and take the name brand (Mrs. Weiss) bags of the bagging machine and place the local store brand bags on it and put the same damned noodles in different (lower priced) bags. Then with about 2 hours or so left they would stop the line once more and place generic bags on the bagger and put the same noodles into even lower priced bags.

The point is that just like the local grocery store computer manufacturers don't make shit. They buy other peoples noodles and put them in their brand of bag. So when you buy a SONY or an HP it does not really matter because their suppliers are all getting the same sub-components. The thing to look at is what are the components of the machine ad what is the competitions price for a system with the same or similar components. The only time the name of the manufacturer should ever be a consideration in your purchasing decision is if you are in an enterprise environment where elevated support channels and volume pricing and not some paperwork performance figures are the deciding factors as these vary from company to company depending on your purchasing power. That and for n00b end users who need good support. For those folks buy a Dell or an HP as they have U.S. (native English) support channels. If you are like me save the money and get an Acer or ASUS or some other "off brand" that has the same noodles in a different box and has shitty foreign tech support. You will save yourself hundreds of dollars and have just as fast of a system.

Ha, funny thing is, I am actually going for that Acer, Asus channel. Cost/ performance matters to me a lot. Brand can fuck itself. Plus, with my Tech know how I can make anything I buy into something truly awesome. Wait till they see BT3RC3 on it :D.

A computer is the sum of its parts. There are two desktop processor vendors. There are two (serious) graphics card vendors. There are two motherboard makers. There are two (the rest is rebranding) storage and ram producers. The other peripherals don't matter.

They are all made in the same factories by the same people with the same machines. They only difference is the casing. Very often it's the casing that gets damaged first (and proceeds to destroy the parts).

You should just ask: What kind of casing should i get? Sony and Have some sturdy casing, the crappiest is Asus. I'm writing this on an Acer, I have no strong opinions about it.

I've said this a million times on a million forums but it doesn't matter. No one seems to get it.

From your list, The second one would be my choice. Doesn't Sony sell laptops with AMD processors? I also agree with you on the 1080p display, it makes a big difference.

Yep, I would be traveling a lot. In fact, I would be carrying the Laptop in my backpack while riding my bicycle to the University. So, having a touch body would be nice.

The Acer has the best graphics card, and also has the i7 processor. Definitely that one. This is the graphics card benchmarked: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+630M and this is the processor benchmarked http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-2670QM+%40+2.20GHz

Although Ivy Bridge, the second one is only an i5 processor and thus scores lower on benchmark tests.

I own a dell Studio 1557 that I've had for 3 years now, and it has been nothing but bliss :)

The problem is, all of the models have this issue. I ain't bullshitting bro. I literally checked all the available Laptops, the one with FULL HD screens are expensive and out of my budget and pretty much useless. Keep in mind I have a full blown fucking awesome Desktop computers with 2x23"(1080p) displays. My only use would be to power my workplace when I am in the Uni or away from the beast. Simply put, Don't really care about the resolution, just want a decent GPU for Adobe Suites and Nvidia 540M is more than enough.

The build quality might be an issue but I am not an Apple/status freak and I value my money. The money I save going for this, will come in handy for buying some headphones, a decent bag and an external 1TB drive.

I find it really difficult using one screen. I've become so reliant on 2 monitors my laptop just sits there doing fuck all. :(

Not as good graphics card as the one I highlighted in my post. This one= http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+540M
    The last one= http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/vi...eForce+GT+630M

The first acer in my previous post has better specs, it has 2 Gb's of dedicated graphics with a higher Graphics card model number.

They're the same but I will side with 630 on this. It's also a bit more expensive :(

I did contact the dealer, he only has 5755 versions not the other one. They're basically the same. I need to go and look for a shop where I can test this.
