Analog vs digital - Both have their advantages/disadvantages. Digital is binary: either works 100% or 0%. With analogue you can still something out of a bad source.
They've "Upgraded" the TV signal to digital recently in AU - same problem.
And that's the thing, digital radio will have lost packets leading to "th_ c__py s_ound" but analog would be shit stack of static but you'd be able to make out the message
Its also the reason why they still use analog radios on aircraft and ships. The signal might be weak as fuck but with a skilled operator will still be able to just make out the signal amongst the static. Imagine a mayday call with a weak signal on a digital system, you are pretty much good as dead.
