Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend."

edited October 2010 in Life
This book gave me taste in literature. Before it, many years ago, I hadn't yet realized how truly genius books could be, how beautiful and sad and inspiring stories can be when they aren't butchered by the television. I first found this book sometime in the 4th grade and borrowed it from a friend. After reading it I had to give it back, but being the small world that it is, I saw the sSAME copy nearly ten years later, bound in duct tape and looking VERY worn, so I traded it for some Nietzsche I had laying around and I've skimmed it and lent it out ever since.

Here's what the copy I had looked like:

An endless horde of the undead... yeah, it's encouraged and inspired me ever since the first day I found it, and if that's not worth sharing I don't know what is. It's really got everything a book needs: fear, loneliness, madness, addiction, violence, love, regret, desperation, ect ect.

For those of you who saw the movie with Will Smith, please don't let that discourage you from picking this book up IMMEDIATELY. The movie seriously butchered the story and in the book, the main character is white.

It's infinitely better. The movie was a HUGE disappointment for me, but to be fair when I realized Will Smith was the main character I pretty much lost interest. But yeah, check it out, from start to finish it's an instant classic. It's been adapted to film four times but none of the four manage to do it any real justice. The book is just so gloomy and awkward that you can't really remake it.

Yeah the book shat all over the movie, as expected. In fact, my biggest complaint about the book is I got some fucking faggot new copy with Will Smith on the cover. My lovely aesthetic is gone!
