What makes a good website?

edited February 2011 in Spurious Generalities
What do you like to see in a website, and what would make it appeal to you and seem especially good?

I enjoy seeing a good structure, filled with interesting relevant content. Color schemes also matter quite a lot - I think the one we've got here is pretty awesome. Blue and white are really good colors which go well together.

This thread sucks, but whatever - reply if you want.

What makes a good website in my opinion is the content.

Not biased content formulated by a circlejerk of cockmunchers that agree on everything, but content where information is disputed, tossed around, full of raging, whining brats that know what they're talking about or at least attempt to understand.

Lulz is necessary too. A dry website where everything sounds like it's being said by an elderly white male with a monotonous voice is enough to make any one close the tab.

Oh, and pix of tSwift make a good website too.

See? This site just got better. :o

    Simplicity.

People went to Google because it was nothing more than a search box.

People go to Craigslist because it's nothing more than text.

People go to Redtube because it's nothing more than interracial, lesbian, asian, fetish, latina, anal, teen, solo, squirt porn.

Content is the most important for sure, but a nice clean easy to navigate website with a decent style goes a long way.

Also simplicity and a pleasing color scheme.

A website is a very broad term

To give a correspondingly broad answer, interesting content makes a good website. If I want to continue reading/looking at what's on it, it's good. If I get bored quickly and close it, it's a bad website.

One where disagreement is at least civil. One where there is a sense of community. A site where even when members disagree they still have the sense to do so in a fashion that does not make the entire community look like slobbering toddlers. One where the majority of members take some pride in being a part of the community and help to move it forward. One where the community shuns those who do not keep the sites best interest in mind.

In other words a site populated by those who are looking to build something and not just tear shit up because they are a bored angry kid.
