What is This Ant?!

The other night my fiancé and I had friends over and we were all having a good time. She and I kept going into the kitchen for beer and everything was normal. At one point something was spilled and she mopped the floor clean. About twenty minutes later the kitchen floor was cover with at least, and I shit you not, 100 of these ants.
I swept them all into a pile which took a little time then dumped them outside.
She freaked out a little. She says they are princess ants and there should only be 4 per colony. Either way it was creepy enough that they all just appeared in the span of 20 minutes. Can any of you tell me about these things?

There's no particular species of ants that have wings. Not all species can grow them, but for those that can, the appearance of wings just signifies mating season.
