But seriously what the hell to the one with a rack in the oven. As if people dont already have modular racks in their ovens - I've had five flattish trays going on in there before.
And same for the cookie tray; it has no additional functionality or powers not possessed by a regular cookie tray.
I am intruged by this one. I would like know about the technology behind it.
So would the designers.
Its not a working model right now AFAIK it never actually made it past the drawing board. It'd be a difficult concept to make for a few reasons.
You need to be able to both zero the scales and have a flush, robust and waterproof body while maintaining sensitivity. A very challenging project.
Thanks for clearing that up. Do you have link to the designer. By stating AFAIK I assume you have read on this before.
I said AFAIK because I've seen the image before a few years ago and if the same image is still floating around (and still clearly not a functioning model) then im guessing that it never got made.
Seriously the amount of time and creativity it would take to overcome the challenges in the concept wouldnt be worth it - its definately one for the too hard basket.
you can get gram scales on ebay for like 20c from china .. and shipping is only like $10 ... they work well to
I'm not worried about weighing it. I can get a postal scale at walmart for $5. What I'm really looking for is a reliable source where I can get, like, as little as a gram at a time.
Only thing anywhere near the same thing I could find.
Yeah it looks like they made a run at it but kind of fell short. That one looks like any other hybrid kitchen gadget. Nice to look at and a pain in the ass to clean. But thanks for the link.
I could possibly see this working with the large surface area of the bag, but I would think the engine would cut out b4 it could lift a vehical that high?

Plus that car has a dual exhaust so I wouldn't see that working too great.....

Um, if was a true duel exhaust the back pressure created by the side of the exhaust manifold that was inflating the bladder would not back up through the valves, into the cylinders, and out the other side. In a true duel exhaust there are two separate exhaust systems for each side of the engine.

I might have misunderstood your comment but that's what gram scales are and their increment (I'm not sure that the proper word to use but I'm gonna anyway) is 0.1g

Fair enough, but you can see the split in the picture, no? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Even if it is a cosmetic dual exhaust the bladder jacks still work. They have a one way inline valve that prevents the gases from leaking out until you open the valve to lower the vehicle. You are underestimating the amount of pressure created by the exhaust of a gasoline combustion engine and over estimating the amount of pressure required to lift a vehicle. I saw guys with these bladder jacks back in the 90's in the desert outside of Vegas. They were popular there for two reasons. 1. They work. 2. They are better than a scissor jack or the old style bumper jack on a soft surface such as sand or wet muddy soil.

Ohrly? For the appliations they are used for - big trucks, offroaders, Paris - Dakar rally entries, etcetera, the engines have the powere to the gases in. The bags are designed so if the valve is over pressured on the inlet, the excess can escape. It is a simple valve of some very tough fabric sowed, works a bit like a heart or artery valve but they mostly have two parts. Like a water ram.

Idk? I'm confused now.....
Does not matter, as they have a valve that will let in and hold onto pressure, and also a valve to regulate over pressure. They are made up of two chambers. An exhaust gas entry chamber with the over pressure valve on - it is pretty much always open as the feed into the bag cannot take as much air in as is availble - but this is a good thing as it avoids the bag being unpredictable in use.
Bags are also very stable - they have both a high ground contact area and a high vehicle contact area. I can mach that with my very heavy trolley jack and lots of baulks of timber taking up space in the back of my truck.
Everyone I know who has a bag uses it quite a bit. Its a very quick, clean way of lifting up the side of a 4x4 to inspect it easily.

Why is everyone talking about these stupid fucking bubble jacks?
1. It would be easy for it to get ruptured in the boot of your car, rendering it useless.
2. The ground you inflate on may have some tiny sharp objects. See #1
3. What if your engine won't run, and you need a jack to fix it?
4. What if the engine running/hot exhuast pipe obstructs repairs?
5. What if the thing pops or otherwise deflates while you're under the car?
The man who invented these should shove one up his ass and hook it up to a schoolbus exhaust.

1. Not if you had packed it properly. Its more likely a trolley jack rolling around the boot would fuck itself and a lot more besides.
2. Its not a problem, they are made from tough stuff
3. If you need to remove an engine in the areas where you would likely use an air jack, not having the engine running is not a problem. Expedition 4x4's and srs offroaders generally have 12v compressors
4. The polymer used is pretty resistant to heat and contains materials to help move heat
5. What if my jack breaks while I am under a car? I have seen 10's of scissor jacks do this, seen hydraulic floor jacks fail and farm jacks dig themselves a nice hole.
They are tough, used in some of the most extreme off and onroad competitions in the world, easy to move around and easy to see if they are working. I can see very easily if one is damaged, but due to my lack of x-ray vision cannot see if metal has a crack in it due to fatigue. My floorjack weighs a fuck load, I know which one I would be getting in and out of my truck if I had the choice of both.
Face it dr rocker this guy knows nothing about bladder jacks and no amount of evidence is going to get him to admit he actually learned something ITT.
Nah, his post was educational. I could see using one of these, but I'd keep a jackstand around with it so I could leave the car elevated without having a giant balloon in the way, and a hot exhaust pipe waiting to sear my flesh. Looks like it would be very useful for getting out of sand, as the spread-out weight would keep it from digging itself deeper down.

They are not intended for use during complex repairs no more that a scissor jack is. They are intended as a safer, more reliable replacement for the jack that comes with a vehicle. When I work on my car at home I use a floor jack and jack stands not the jack that came with my car.

yes !!! It was the right word ... Winning

^^^That.
I don't even consider the scale unless it measures in .01g increments.
