Independence is sexy. I don't want to date someone that can won't pull her own weight because she thinks being eye candy and offering a sloppy hole to put my dick in will compensate for preventing me from pursuing my goals. Leverage in this age is gained in the mental arena, rather than the emphasis on physical dominance. Women do tend to be more perceptive and have more finesse socially. So eh.

I think what she is getting at is that they want to schedule their lives based on their own desires, rather than having to be dependent on a man, and having a child at the age of 19 that robs you of your own youth and vitality.
And womens income has increased so much since 1970 something because they were earning so little back then in the first place! Its not really something men should be worried about.
