Willy Moon, I don't get him

Now, I am pretty sure he is copying someone from the past, with this oldschool style. I am trying to guess which is it. Keep in mind his songs don't really make much sense to me. According to him, he writes and produces everything himself. Judging from his twitter followers, he isn't that famous yet.
