Who do you surround yourself with?

They say that your level of success in life is based on the people who are closest to you..so just out of curiosity..who do you surround yourself with? Do you associate yourself with your friends or are you ashamed of them?

As for myself I used to associate myself with gamers..and because of that, i believe i had a challenge with social interaction with people who were very extroverted :o
but I don't really associate myself with my friends anymore just because the majority of my old gamer friends are very lazy and apathetic in life ://

I got pwned by associating myself with IRL friends, now I just stick with the community, I have learned the hardway what happens when you trust someone IRL especially a cunt.

I feel like I got pretty fucked by associating myself with internet people throughout my teenage years instead of getting out and talking to people IRL. As a result I often find it hard to string a sentence together  But I'm recently making more of an effort to talk to more people, and actually have conversations with them instead of just the few words. Skype and TS also help with this!

I only have 4 close friends who I "surround" myself with - guy friends who I've known for years and centre me when I'm feeling crap and we have a laugh.
As for University, I just have acquaintances. I only keep in touch with about 2 people per year. Don't often trust individuals.

I live way out in the country, parents never took me anywhere as a kid to socialise apart from school. Didnt really have a social life till I bought my first car when I was 16. Everything was going good, getting pissed every weekend, fucking bitches.

Now my flat mate disappears without even telling me what hes up to then comes home and tells me how awesome his weekend was -.-

I must have turned into a dick or something.

To answer the OP, Greasy bogans. we work on our cars and do burnouts haha

This is an interesting question. The answer is: I don't know exactly.

I like people who do things and stand out as "other". Although i don't particularly stand out, appearance wise at least.

I'll reverse the question: I don't like associating with people who view knowledge as embarassing. I don't like overly sporty people.I don't like religious people. I don't like people who fool themselves (the last one is a little vague, but you guys get it).

If any of my friends have one common quality, it's probably compassion.

Generally speaking i can have vibrant conversations with almost everyone, although i'm better at writing than speaking. obstification

I've been wondering how to reply to this thread. I think Slarty summed up my feelings exactly. Its not who I surround myself with, but more, from experience, who I avoid. Doing what I do, I meet a wide variety of people from all walks of life. Some I socialise with and others I avoid, and I must admit, the number of people I avoid is more significant than the number I meet outside work.

^^^ true..I myself avoid different avenues of friends because I do not want to pick up bad habits that all these group of friends share in common. The example of my last post- i avoid my "gamer" friends just because i will pick up their habits of being lazy, playing video games all day, smoking and drinking, and ditching their girlfriends for sausage fests(most of them didn't have girlfriends anyway)

But in that sense, i also started to avoid my girlfriend(now ex) because she had some terrible habits as well..doing cocaine, trading sex for drugs..too flirty..couldn't take it..:/

    Yep. I shamelessly admit that.
    Why?
Because after dealing with Women the past few years, I've learnt they are absolute twats who need a man to blame for all the problems in their life.

I have a addiction to bad. I think in terms of bad, wrong, and ugly. I realise this now. I used to think I did not but time schools.

I gravitate to people the same.criminals, monsters, andsh ady. They make me feel like its ok and I'm not evil or wrong or a criminal. However they generaly worsen my condition sending me farther faster down the hole .......

Being around family makes me feel guilty. Verry guilty. I feel like a vampire in church......I feel like a piece of shit sometimes.....

Damn sometimes I want to talk to a shrink or something.

You know its kinda funny because I will talk to damn near anyone and genuinely like good people, especially those with a story to tell, but I keep very few close friends and stick mostly with my family. On a day to day basis I see my wife more than anyone (naturally) and a cousin who was like a brother growing up. I have a close circle of friends that I have known since middle school that I see a few times a month, but other than that its all family, but we are a very close bunch, we all live a few miles apart with the center of activity being my grandmothers house, all of the family friends jokingly call us the clan. I always find it strange when I hear guys whining about how much time they spend with their wife because that is who I prefer to spend all of mine with, we will have been married 3 years in July and been together almost 5. I ramble but long story short, family, that's who I surround myself with, I spent my teenage years off and running, got into a bit of shit, made some dumb decisions and ended up appreciating my family a whole lot more when all was said and done.

We should go together ;) I have no conscience. Takes a while but soon enough you learn how to kill it. I only care for those I hold dear such as Family and 4 friends.
