i dont know for sure if it runs under ubuntu, ive always tried to avoid ubuntu whenever possible, never quite liked their way of doing things, but i can recommend deluge, in fact fuck i just googled it for you, it supports and has packages for ubuntu http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/Download
Running uTorrent under wine seems like alot of work if you just want a torrent client...
I just have it setup so I can click the Utorrent icon and it will automatically start up fine, just like any other program. Seems to be no more work...even if it was, I love Utorrent.

For some reason, running UNR 10.04 on my netbook, Transmission crashes. A LOT. Like...can't open it, it's somehow broken. I hated it anyways.

If you're running in runlevel 3 or just want a shell torrent client, use ctorrent, otherwise if you want the graphical stuff use Azureus.
Qt based: Ktorrent
Ktorrent always seems to download stuff faster, but i can't prove it statistically - probably just my KDE bias.
