Got a new HDD!

It's Seagate 7200.12 1TB 7200rpm drive. I had the option of buying WD 1TB which is 5400 rpm and is known as WD Green. It does consume less power than Seagate but fuck it. I need the new drive for OS backup and possible future OS drive. But man this feels good. I finally am moving into the TB sphere :D.

Btw I ahve two 360 GB drives both are from WD [7200] but one of them [new one] had some bad sectors. So, I can't use it for RAID.

Right now I am moving data from another HDD [Seagte 7200.10 250GB] and then I will delete my old partitions and make bigger ones. This means I will probably move data to new HDD and back format whole partitions.

Ahh I have a 500gb seagate 7200 in my netbook. It's been running 6815 hours, started and stopped 4576 times and has been dropped 352 times. Let me tell ya, seagates are built like a fucking rock.

Needs a format tho, it's running a little slow. I need to image the disk, wipe it, then copy all the important shit back.

At any local Bestbuy in nyc. They're holding a sale and getting rid of old HDDs. I went there this morning to pick up some 16 gb flash drives and saw them piled up. No box, nothing. Just a raw HDD for $10.

Hard Drives consume so little power compared to the rest of the peripherals that it should never be even a remote factor unless you're using it in the server environment. As for those "Green" drives, absolute bullshit. They take decades old 7,200RPM drives and call them "Black" and the old 5,400RPM drives and slap them with a "Green" tag. Fuck marketing and everyone trying to jump on this "Green" bandwagon for profits.

Grats on finally hitting the TB world. It seems you are limited in space when you are in the hundreds of gigabytes but once you hit 1TB+ it all seems like over kill. Until you start downloading nothing but 8GB 1080p Bluray rips lol. I got 3 x 640GB WD Black drives as my RAID0 right now. Once 3-4TB single drives start becoming cheap ($150) I'm going to RAID5 four of them bitches. Should keep me going good for about 5-10 years TBH unless something comes along that is going to make that seem small. Right now BluRay is having a hard time making my 1.75TB array look small much less combined with my 500GB external. Now if we could all only get 100/100Mbps FTTH. I'd be happy with 100/100 speeds for 10 years if we could just get it now :o

Now, as you can see I still have to keep some data on my external HDD to keep things simple. I have tons of data :(. I might require another 1TB drive in coming months.

But still, it feels fucking good.

Funny things is I don't keep porn. I would have like 2 Gb of porn at max.

HD Movies is my portable drive partition. I use/used it to store 720p/1080p rips. Kinda helps when you're downloading movies and HD content here and there. I don't have a fast Internet connection atm but two months back it was fast enough for me to download good amount of movies in a week.

My PC used to recognise it as 'Expansion disk: F' and now 'Local Disk: F' and with the error 'File is corrupted or unreadable' - or similar.

What should I do? The green light on the front blinks permanently...

It sounds like the SATA to USB converter/controller board inside went bad; the hard drive itself is most likely OK.

All you can do is crack that fucker open, pull out the hard drive and install it into your computer. A 10 minute job.

You can also install it into a new hard drive enclosure, a 20 dollar item.

or just try changing the SATA cables and check the power cable.

This, or the drive is just fucked. I had a friend who used to shoplift them and would go through about 3 a week. Yes, we tried swapping them, no it didn't help.

NO fucking idea, because I got a couple off of him, and the first one failed eventually, but it was the kind before SATA, and I have no idea what I did with the second one. Most likely sold it for shit.

Not likely. He gave me his computer last year and I've never had any problems with the USB ports.

He's just hard on his things, I think. EVERY cell phone he has breaks, EVERY computer he has except for the one I rescued has fried, EVERY wireless card he's had breaks, EVERY bike he's had breaks, EVERY car he's driven extensively drops it's tranny sooner or later..... Thinking it's just him haha.

5400 rpm drives are SLOW AS SHIT for your main OS. I hate using 5400rpm drives in laptops, let alone desktops. Do not ever use 5400rpm drives unless you can't help it.

I have a 160gb Seagate drive that was 6 years old when I replaced it with a 640gb WD Black one. Decided I needed more storage. Nothing wrong with the drive, though, and I abused it with tons of writes/rewrites.

I have an old laptop HDD at home that's 4500 lol.

Also, seagate makes 10k 600Gb laptop hard drives! 6Gb/s! :fap:
