What's in a Hobby?

So it's come to my attention I really may need a new hobby... Medical professionals have given me the advice that due to certain circumstances regarding my health of late that have come to light suggest I ought to branch out my interests from just drinking, smoking and getting high; which although I doubt I will cut those out entirely, or even especially significantly, the advice has become at least somewhat compelling to me...

I guess what I'm asking is this: fellow worshipers of the Temple, what are your hobbies? What is fun for you when sober(or fucked up, if there isn't enough sober-time for that type of query to be relevant), and how much does it cost? I'm pretty much spit-balling wit chu maw fuckas atm cuz I'm bored as shit with a lot of the stuff I do, so I'm open to pretty much any ideas u folks have.

THAAAAAANKS GAAAISE :D:D:D:D:D

What's your best skill? I mean what do you like to do or dream of doing one day?

I don't have a hobby in the traditional sense. I don't consider watching movies/shows or using web forums to be a real hobby. Past that, I work too fucking much to have any "hobby" time.

I don't really have any clear aspirations at the moment... I'm not bad at writing myself, but it tends to take a lot out of me as I have some form of insomnia and it can be hard to say anything other than mindless gibberish when you're ass is suuuper tired... Other than that I'm not too into too much other than ye olde vices; like to read n watch shit.... Used to work out a lot but no longer haha... In part that's why I'm lookin' to broaden my horizens:D

Go fishing. It's awesome. I actually just got back from a short trip today.

It can be relaxing, but intense as well. Depending on where you live, there should be some awesome fishing available (dunno where the fuck Canuckistan is.)

It ties in well with drinking, smoking and getting high as well.

Yes, I am aware of it, but I don't think it's fo me... A lot of my fam is keen on it, but I'm terrible at it and usually just end up getting hammered-shmammered :P

We're getting the idea-juices flowin' now tho; eez good so thanks for the ideas and if u please, keep em comin.:D

That's cool, fishing definitely isn't for everyone.

What I've been trying my hand at lately is writing horror movie scripts, then getting a bunch of people together to try and 'act' them out. As none of us are actors, we generally try to work on mindfucks or shock value, rather than terrific acting. Getting a cheap electric keyboard and using it to make backing music is great too, as you can play around with all the effects and make cool sounding background music (and you don't even need to know anything about musical instruments to get a good backing track happening.)

I don't want this to come off as offensive, and if you find it offensive, I'll edit it out, but with your insomnia, you could possibly turn some of that 'mindless gibberish' you talking about into something really intense and fucked up. I dunno if it works like that, but yeah.

Hiking. It's deeply refreshing to be as far away from humanity as you can for a day or two.

Looks like masturbation, only less fun.

heh, no worries, I'm not easily offended... And I've sometimes wondered if I ever had the capacity to write a Hunter S. Thompson-esque book or something; I guess by the time I'm an old man I'll know for sure haha

Yea hiking's not bad, I quite like camping and shit, but alas I don't have access to a vehicle to propel me away from civilization most of the time, so I guess I could put that under the 'occasional' pile... And yeah, all that making sciency stuff is interesting to me, but I'd probably end up fapping instead as well : p.... Which in a way is odd since I'm kinda in school for electrical shit hahaha

Anywho, thanks for more ideas, broskis and brosefs :D

Pick up an instrument, learn ninja shit like how to throw ninja stars, learn how to blow yourself, etc. Just pick something cool and exciting and learn how to do it.

Dude, if I ever learned how to blow myself it wud be the end of my dating career :P

I get your point, but one of my main problems is picking something at random, as forming teh ideas in my head can be tough...

However, I am actually not terrible at throwing ninja stars... In fact, I'm pretty damn good at using said technique to throw playing cards hahaha:cool:

I like carpentry, love power tools. I built myself a nice growbox (which grew into another hobby) and a bunch of other useful shit, restored my dining room table, working on a chess set and toybox right now. You can do some cool shit with just a $10 rotary tool.

You said forming ideas in your head is tough and I'm the same way, I have to look around for ideas before I start to build something. Once I start looking though, I usually find something very useful.

I just started collecting rocks. Not something I would have ever seen myself doing, but whatever, time makes fools of us all. I have got a nice little collection of rocks and crystals going and plan to spend a few weekends this summer camping and rockhounding, especially back at the fossil beds near my home town. I play guitar as well, and although I still suck, learning to play a little has helped me appreciate music much more, and for that reason alone it was worth it. Of course i cook too, but you seem like this is already a part of your life.

I don't think any hobby is going to take the place of drugs and alcohol, never did for me, and if you need to lay off, chances are a variety of diversions will be required. You are getting laid regularly right?, if not, make arrangements to do so, this takes up a great deal of time that could otherwise be put to ill use.

When I have been taking a break from booze and weed, I have found myself sharpening knives and splicing rope, both are very relaxing.

Funny, I just find myself angrier and jittery, but with some weird feeling of self satisfaction.

Hahaha I'm in a drought season, so to speak... Hopefully things will turn around.
If not, I can always join Dfg's countrymen in the great anti-crusade against the infidels, and try and cash in on those afterlife virgins ;)

Also, I have difficulty attracting women at the moment as I am rather emaciated due to the whole sleep thing kind of becoming entwined in malnutrition and lack of exercise etc... Thanks for your post though, I always enjoy reading your posts.

I'm fairly certain I am entirely too clumsy & careless to engage in that type of activity... D'oh.

Looking over my posts makes me feel like such a downer heh; guess I'll have to keep a-lookin :)

What about getting into vintage or collectible Stereos, speakers and etc. Find a nice Stereo and collect tapes, cd's, or even get a TT and some vinyl.
Its not really a hobby that takes skills or Talent like an instrument. finding old gear at flea markets or other interesting places can be fun.

    Heres an old Marantz 2325
