I am not 'sheeple'

edited June 2011 in Spurious Generalities
I am getting tired as hell of this term and the fucks that use it. Just because I work for a living, pay rent, and buy stuff, does not mean that I have been brainwashed to 'suck corporate dick'. I am so fucking sick of shit ass hippies and supposed "anarchists" telling me that by involving myself in society I am somehow feeding a massive beast that threatens us all.

Grow the fuck up, you useless pieces of shit. If you are a part of the developed world, you are living off the sweat, poverty, and pain of the rest of the world. This is true even if you sit on streetcorners, eat from dumpsters, and go to faggot drum circles to raise awareness of how much the world sucks for some people. If you really wanted to make a difference, you would get a fucking good job, and use some of the money you make to help others.

Lets take a hypothetical;

Family man Dan has 2.4 children, gets up at 6, goes to bed at 10, makes a good wage, owns a house, volunteers as a baseball coach, enjoys fishing and football, loves his wife, and takes annual trips with the kids to Disneyland. He owns a jetski, a 50inch plasma, and a vehicle appropriate to his needs. Dan drinks a bit with the boys, smokes a little grass when fishing with his old friend Bob, and takes an ativan or two when things get hairy. Dan has RRSP's, savings for his kids college funds, and a couple of stock market investments.

Dan is not happy all the time, but he is happy most of the time. Dan is 'that guy', and will likely die happy, surrounded by friends and family, with his dying thought; "my wife never did anal, but that's okay, I ass banged that hotel maid when we were in Mexico, I have no regrets"

I know a few Dans, I am not jealous, my life is a product of my choices, and I don't begrudge anyone what they have worked for. I don't think everyone should be like Dan, neither does Dan. Dan is just an example of someone who is happy to play on the field, color inside the lines, and enjoy a good cup of coffee in the morning while the birds are chirping and MrsDan bags lunches for the kids.

Not my life, not a life a lot of totseans would choose, but is there anything really wrong with it? I don't think so.

To some, Dan is the spawn of Satan, a corporate slave, bound in chains to the consumer culture he helps perpetuate, and raising his kids to be the same. If Dan is happy, it is because he has dialated his asshole to the point where he no longer feels the fist being pounded up it, and humbly accepts the turds doled out to him by the government, the illuminati, and the Corporate Assholes Bent On Destroying The World.

The 50" plasma Dan likes to watch football on is a corrupting influence through which the numbing waves of corporate agendas slowly brainwash him and his family. Of course, nobody thinks Dan might have a brain in his head, and be able to tell shit from shineola, and might be able to teach his kids the same.

The minivan Dan drives is so very uncool as well, even though it suits his needs, and gets good mileage. If Dan had any respect for the planet, he and his family would use transit and bicycles exclusively, instead of just when practical. The jetski marks Dan as a bourgoise scumbag, and if he had any compassion for his fellow man he would burn it, or take it to the beach and let anyone who couldn't be bothered to make enough money to afford their own have a go.

The fact that MrsDan only works part time for some fun money must mean she is a downtrodden housewife, unable or unwilling to further herself and break the chains of servitude put upon her by society's expectations and her husbands oppression of her gaia given right to succeed on her own. The fact that MrsDan has a bachelors degree but only uses it to write scathing blogs about bad toy manufacturers, tutor her children, and work at the library is further proof that she is brainwashed to accept these things a fulfilling and worthwhile.

You get the picture, people like Dan and his family are held up by some as what is wrong with society, they are exemplified by equally ignorant parties on the other side as the only legitimate way to exist. Both views are overly polarized, ignorant of human nature, and annoying as hell.

I am just as tired of preachy idealist twits telling me how to spend my money ethically as I am of socially conservative types telling me what is offensive. I will decide, and all the drum circles, religious pamphlets, and television ads I see will not change that.

I realize there is a lot of destructive consumerism, greed, and misinformation out there. I see no difference between the dingbat rolling down the road in an Escalade with his ass so far in hock it will never see daylight, and some roots radical eating from dumpsters and calling people fascists while collecting welfare and eating at soup kitchens paid for by those he professes to hate.

Concepts like right, wrong, personal responsibility, and respect for others become clouded when one chooses to adopt an ideology. Every movement needs an US and a THEM, and some have chosen to see anyone who works for a living, wears nice shoes, and reminds them of their parents as the enemy.

Don't hate Dan, Dan is just doing what Dan thinks is right, and is happy doing it. Don't lay down your arms and become complacent either, society needs those who question it's direction as much as it needs those who run the ship. Just stop wasting time hating on the people you see having a nice picnic in the park, with the 2.4 children and the minivan.

And quit calling people brainwashed sheeple because they want an $800 Sony 120hz Led tv, it's not mindless consumerism to want to have something nice and near the cutting edge for once, for fuxxake.

"sheeple, really?, do you really think that? well, I suppose if words are all you can afford, you might as well use them"

Hi, my real name is Dan:D
You make a solid argument, but is Dan a Republican or a Democrat?
Who did Dan vote for last time around?I think when most people use the term 'sheeple' they are referring to a political mind set more than anything else.

I left Dan's religion/politics out of it, because in both cases it is a sheep/shepherd arrangement, and obvious as such. Lets just say Dan votes his conscience, and is agnostic at heart. What I really want to dig on is the idea that successful happy people are somehow inherently corrupt, and the idea that some level of conformity to social norms makes one beholden to those that espouse them.

I agree, it is patronizing and ironically used usually and most often by the biggest tools and morons with no tact whatsoever. It's the same as capitalists who think they're clever by pointing out to socialists that they have goods from megacorporations. It isn't really hypocrisy to own something produced by a megacorporation and rail against capitalism. You can own something produced by HP or whatever while at the same time being opposed to capitalism. Furthermore, they can use these tools to spread their anti-capitalist beliefs. The fact that they own an ipod, or laptop made by HP shows they live in a supercapitalist society. That's it. Owning those possessions means nothing past that, nor does it make you part of the "sheeple" to use them. The same goes for paying bills, doing an honest day's work and not acting like an idiot. The same goes for paying the majority of your taxes. One can be opposed to the current government or what have you by working with what they've got and getting further and attracting less attention. It's easy to bend the rules in regards to taxes and it should be done to a certain extent so you can "bleed the beast" as it were. People who don't pay/get insurance are idiots as well.

I tend to just shut off when they use words like sheeple, they have a very narrow-minded and elementary Orwellian view of the world. These people don't rage against the machine, just their bedtime.

    tl/dr

Many people misuse the word 'Sheeple'. It's supposed to refer to the naive optomistic mass of retards that like everything, never have an opinion of their own, and always stick to the most popular music and shows on tv because that is what magazines and tv said they should like.
These are the type of people to get trampled over first, should a mass riot ever happen.

You will likely spend too much time licking your own nuts, but thanks anyway.

Regardless of the type of person, I can't stand anyone who degrades those who put in an honest day's work for whatever reason. Sure, corporate greed and corruption exist. Does that mean your mailman is encouraging that by delivering people's paychecks in the mail? Fuck no. He's doing a job he chose and likely enjoys.

C/O, next time you have some hippie twat get preachy on you, beat them with a 2x4. Nothing makes people change their mind about "the system" like having doctors save your life.
