If you survive the fall the river will flow into the desert. The water will dry up in no time at all and you will be surrounded by the dunes. The heat is inescapable and the desert is a mysterious place. The sandscapes are portals. Some are just mirages though. Most of the gateways will lead you to another corner of the barren sandland, so you see it really isn't easy to escape. There's no civilization out there. Only a power plant and barbed wire fences, dried up riverbeds, underground caverns, and of course the glorious mesas. It's a harsh life, but a good life sometimes.
