ITT discuss recipes and what to do with ramen besides the normal adding of the flavor packet. I need some ideas because regular ramen is boring and gets old fast.
Boil ramen in hot water once, dump into strainer, and run through cold water for several minutes. While running, put soup base into fresh pot of water to boil and then put the ramen back in to cook.
In 1984 myself and a friend spent 4 1/2 months canoeing the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. We put in at Fly, Ohio and canoed to the end of the Ohio where it joins the Mississippi in Cairo, Illinois. From there we traveled down Mississippi to St. Louis. We had many dried provision and a planned menu which we supplemented with fish, small game, and donated food from various canoe clubs who met us along the route.
Part of out menu of dried goods was Ramen noodles. I ate Ramen noodles almost every day for 4 1/2 months.
Then, 3 years later I moved to Las Vegas and while I was in a casino dealers school for about 5 months I was dirt poor and $.79 Banquet TV dinners and Ramen noodles was part of my strict budget to get through school.
So after two periods in my life where I ate those things every day for a combined total of almost one year the only good thing you can do with Ramen noodles IMO is to leave them in the store.
If you have a Japanese ramen joint somewhere in your city, you should try the real thing. I still eat ramen, but I try to avoid it is it is worse for you than McDonalds due to being fried in palm oil. I have found a few good Chinese substitutes that come in basically the same format, some noodles and a broth pouch, but unless you have access to a Chinese market they are hard to find.
For the OP, and anyone else on a budget, here is my favorite cheap meal. Get Sapporo Ichiban ramen or Nissin Ramen, most other things are crap.
Get a small pot of water boiling.
Take about 1/4lb ground beef, about as much as you would use for a burger and, fry in a small frying pan till well done.
Put the noodles in the boiling water, but not the soup pouch. Add the soup pouch to the ground beef, with a little water and a handfull of bean sprouts, stir and keep on low heat.
When the noodles are almost done drain them and add them to the beef and sprouts. Stir it up a bit, an put a lid over it for a minute or two on low/med heat.
Presto, econo chow mein! At less than a dollar a serving, this is the cheapest meal I make that is not some kind of Indian lentils and rice glop.
If you have other spices and herbs available to you in your Pantry or drawer in your kitchen You can use a wide variety of them. For EX. i use curry powder and parsley in my Ramen. And yes i have put weed in Ramen and its not bad either.
I usualy make a noodle soup, it can be done with those 2 minute ramen noodles but will be much better if you buy your noodles from a asian food shop.
2 packets of noodles. (throw away the flavouring packets)
1l of water.
1 vegetable bouillon cube.
1 teaspoon of red curry paste.
1 teaspoon of green curry paste.
1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
1 tablespoon of soy sauce.
1 can of sweet corn.
Some finely chopped chilis and peppers.
Add everything exept the noodles to the water right away and let it heat up.
One it boils smash the packets of ramen into smaller pieces before adding it to the water.
One Ramen package Any flavor
Can of Hormel Chili or any kind of chili
Small package of Fritos or any corn chip
Cheese if desired, grated or chopped
Boil Noodles to desired state. Drain almost all of noodles except about 1/4 of the water. Place the noodles in a bowl and mix in the seasoning packet, a can of chili, fritos or corn chips, and cheese if desired. You’ve now created the “Inmate Mixer,” an inmate shared this with my husband while he was a guard in a prison here in Texas.

It's very good in a tortilla wrap also.
I would not feed a Hormel product to my neighbor's pigs.
Eh, what don't you like about Hormel? The taste isn't that bad imo.
Taste? I can't get past the smell when you open the can. Hell, the cans of Pedigree I feed my dog smell better than any can I ever opened with a Hormel label on it.
The worst thing I have ever smelled from Hormel is Dinty Moore® stew. I worked in nursing home for a year as a tiny brained wiper of other people's bottoms and I would rather go back to that than open a can of that filth again.

You know I might mention something about hijacking this thread if only ramen tasted better than rat.
Started reading this and made me want some ramen, got done eating it a few minutes ago and now my stomach is all fucked up. I don't eat a lot of processed food and shit.

I never associated it before! I was a professional ass wiper as well and Wow! Canned beef Stew is dead now.

I've done the egg thing before. It makes it taste just like egg drop with noodles:hai:

C/O
"Ichiban is the noodle of a thousand faces"
I haven't tried this myself, but I've thought about cutting up small pieces of chicken, adding it and cheese to the chicken flavored (duh) ramen.
that idea failed with the last ramen thread. Google "Ramen Pizza" with a trashcan nearby.
That picture of the ramen pizza in the other thread made me gag so bad
I know it did but sometimes taking your own pic of the food doesnt always turn out to be appetizing.
jamie ill make it one night for a friend and ill post a tasty cheesy looking one
This would be so much better if it was made with anything other than ramen.
This looks nasty, like a bunch of maggots. or nigger food. Damb bug eatin niggers
Then again, that's my answer for all food I guess.

Dont let the noodles boil for too long.

OH GOD! I WILL NEVER EAT BEEF STEW AGAIN, thanks.
Why? It is not like there is any real beef in Dinty Moore® stew.
That's some tasty fucking rat.
Well if I ever want to go on a diet I know who to call for help.

Yes, another soul saved from the evil that is Hormel.
She'll still eat it, she loves them little Hormel canned tamales.
Ever tried em? They are fucking tasty.
What can I say I like Tamales, homemade ones from NM are better though
Haha, there's something in my chili!! yeah, beans
Funny stuff, True story.
Damn those look good, I'm gonna try them some time.
Be warned, they come wrapped in wax paper inside the can. DON"T EAT IT.
Having trouble following along?

Uh Oh you broke the internet. PermaBAN time.
That looks foul as hell.I've never even heard of a canned tamale before.
