I have always enjoyed listening to comedy, it offers dissenting opinions from the norm as well as varying perspectives serving as more of a release for the comic in comparison to the sole entertainment of the crowd.
Yet it is the expression of ones individual feelings or personal perturbations that make the outspoken content relatable. Arguably one of the few forms of free speech remaining.

Louis C.K. maintains a good balance of being sad and cynical, one of my favorites as well. I've heard several interviews with him in which it is interesting to hear his take on the comedy world.
His show "Louie" on FX is rather good as well.

Carlin used to be on the top of my list, don't get me wrong, I still enjoy most of his comedy and continue to consider him as one of those comedians who brought up real issues and every day fallacies, although it is hard to ignore the fact that his later work represents him more so as being an old curmudgeon.
