Software History

I was just working on the ahem secret project when I goggled some stuff and found out some old threads from totseans.

It seems we for better or worse have actually tested a lot of different solutions.

CMS:

Joomla (got hacked)
Drupal (Overly complicated)
Wordpress (Current)

Forum:

Vbulletin 3.8 (Outdated)
Vbulletin 4.0 (Bitch to work with)
Vbulletin 4.2 (Worked well, but excessive resource usage plus bitch to manage)
Vanilla 2.1 (Current)

Archive:

HTML (Manually edited)

Servers:

Godaddy
Hellish Cheap ass hosting
Vineman Hosting
My personal Hosting Dedicated (Server 1, Quad Core, 8 GB Ram)
My personal Hosting Dedicated (Server 2, Octa Core) Current

And to think all of that work involved, restructuring, new themes, new plugins, and more optimizations.

Man that's a lot of work and I ain't going to sit back and just drop my pants down, it's game on for once. We have new competitions :D (Like err at least 3 websites)

So, get your asses into gear and tell me how you can help!

If you show me what to do with vbulletin or direct me towards it I can learn! :)

But I could do what I did last time and manage the text files and wordpress, that would probably be the most helpful thing I could do. Other than that, what specific jobs are needed at the moment? If you write down a list of things to do and post them on a sticky in a forum, then we could attempt them one at a time and choose the ones we fancy doing.

Sure, I will make M&A post regarding this :) honestly there isn't much to do. It's super simple anyway.

You all know I'm reasonably technical. I can get things running.

Btw I noticed you still haven't integrated WordPress with vanilla...

Yeah it's giving me the forum not found error, it says something about local host entry. I added that but it's still being a bitch.

    Using CentOS 6 btw.

Find me a solution and things can progress, do check the thread in M&A :), I will use your expertise in setting up few important bits :D

    check if:

    127.0.0.1 localhost totseans.com
    is added in /etc/hosts

and try: to the totseans.com/bbs URL again

  • 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4 totseans.com

Current host file looks like that

    Well actually that page works.

Does the server really need that much power though? A Garry's mod server seemed fine on a quad core system, how can I help though?

Oh the Server isn't purely for Totseans, it's for other websites. I just host Totseans there, since it's a personal/community project.

Regarding help, well we need people that post, contribute and hang around. I am currently outlining a massive, EPIC, plan of action, so if you can write or even do basic compiling of information, you would do great.

The incentive for you would be early access to everything and pretty much knowledge.

Just paste what you're good at and we can work around with it. We're all pretty much on the same level here. So, don't worry about the Admin/Global mods etc places. It's mostly like a family here.
  • I have A Microsoft Office specialist certification, a broken computer with Sony Vegas pro, Photoshop but I can't use any of that due to the fact that my crappy Seagate makes an annoying beeping sound and doesn't want to show data, so I use my phone. I can recruit people tho, and I post a lot as you can see lol

Glad to have you here, welcome and recruiting would be great.
