4chan takes down RIAA, MPAA sites

Infamous internet imageboard 4chan has taken down the RIAA and MPAA's websites in a co-ordinated DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) campaign, supposedly in retribution for similar attacks against filesharing websites.

Hundreds of thousands of 4chan users and sympathisers from other online communities joined forces to direct massive amounts of traffic to the target sites using a bit of software called the Low-Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC). LOIC offers a simple way of flooding a server with data, and when used by hundreds of users at the same time, it's almost impossible to guard against, as the attacks are massively distributed.

    Kickass. I don't think it was hundreds of thousands though, that seems like a stretch.

    They probably just thought it was hundreds of thousands due to the number of connections made to the server through LOIC :P

    I was gonna jump in on this when they were asking for support.:o
    They had this shit well planned and organized. I was fucking impressed.
    From the ion cannon download to all the necessary info to make it happen.

    Good on them - All this for teh PB retribution a worthy cause :thumbsup:

    I enjoy 4Chan raids. As mentioned by BK they're well planned BUT Totse is different and while they use numbers to get the upper hand, we will use wit and other tactics.

    4chan is just used for manpower. It's other chans that do the coordination and planning.

    Normally I wouldn't be interested in 4chan.
    Take the Scientology raids. Shit never really appealed.
    But this time it was for a good reason. It was because they tried to Rape the PirateBay.
    Sure they won their case, but it was the principle behind it.
    The MPAA & RIAA tried every fuckin dirty trick in the book from ddos'g the PB servers
    to trying the old, "we'll financially ruin you in the courts." When the RIAA lost the case.
    I couldn't imagine them giving up since they have so much money coming out of their asses
    to push it further....Thanks to this shit, The RIAA now know they're not as invincible as they
    thought they were and there is way to much support against what they're trying to achieve.

    I was in the IRC channel they were using to organize the raid when it was happening. Raid was pretty win, MPAA and RIAA sites went down. Hopefully this will send a message to them not to fuck with the internet.
