Closing an invitation to a social group

I'm having trouble either checking or closing an invitation to a social group in my account notifications (PM's). Whenever I log in it still says "1 new notification", and I seem to not be able to get rid of it so every time I log in it looks like I have a new PM.

Does anyone know how to get that "1 new notification" off?

Go to the group click join and then decline it from there.
