Market shift to Tablets = expensive Laptops?

Is it just me or is the market shift toward Tablets increasing the price of laptops?

It doesn't make sense but half a year ago, laptops were getting real cheap. HPs packing 8 gbs, a decent dedicated video card, 17" screen were barely topping the $650 margin. Now, you're lucky to find any decent laptop in Best buy, that's less than $900 without shit specs (that is if your store has any).

Shouldn't a shift decrease the price?

But that said, I still see ads for decent laptops going for cheap quite often. Don't have a specific example atm.

Exactly. The opposite is occurring, at least in New York.

They probably raised it because with all the attention on apple shit (itouch , ipads, etc.) and smart phones. Most internet users use them casually, probably around 0-2 hours a day. I think many of the casual users rather have a small product with decent speed than a large expensive laptotp.
