This is irritating, as I've considered induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) the more promising of the possible stem-cell therapy options. It also appears that iPSCs may be inherently less pliable than their embryonic counterparts due to them retaining
somatic methylation patterns. I don't know how they intend on solving this latest problem; finding a method of
PIAS upregulation, post-differentiation?
ESCs are wonderful and all but I'd prefer to avoid receiving a graft that requires me to be on immunosuppressive drugs for the rest of my life. Not to mention some of the more unsavoury teratomatic side-effects.
