You can get verification the old way. Tell the user to write something on his user profile [Zoklet]. I think this system was used on notse.net for stats purposes.

Mmmmhmm. I agree for the most part, though I think the specialty forums such as Backyard Ballistics, DIY, and BLTC need them. Places where bad advice/trolls could seriously hurt people, mainly.
