Well, it seems that everyone has lost interest in this thread. I have done a few updates to the first post in the thread to summarize a 12 year build as most of the information in it was out of date, but if no one is interested in following this anymore I may stop bumping it.
Yet again, Ive been gone for another year. New engine still holding strong. Back in June, I did a 4150 conversion to the carb and retuned it and redynoed it and got an absolutely ridiculous 181 HP( at 6000 RPM) and 169 Tq to the wheels out of it. I also grenaded the rear end in it, and the stock clutch slips pretty bad.…
... And Ive been gone for a while again. An update: I have a couple thousand miles on the engine with no issues. Since its well broken in I took it to a dyno day at a local tuner shop and it made 111HP@6000RPM and 122 Ft-Lbs of torque to the wheels. Not bad for a car that stock was rated at 89 hp and 120 Ft Lbs, and 8…
I don't have a photo, but some years ago at a cruise in I saw a bike with a 454 big block engine. It was just stupid big, but boy was it cool to see the owner ride off.
Thanks! I was pretty sure that the block would be good as it was coated in a thick protective coat of oil and grease. Despite the car rotting away around it, I figured it would be rebuildable as long as it rotated smoothly and it did. I pulled off the valve cover before removing the engine and the valvetrain looked really…
Well, Its still just sitting dormant under my desk. Its definitely been a whjile since Ive played with it.Maybe in the next 2 days Ill have time to play with it!
Thanks. Well, I'm still here. I have a knot in my thigh and a couple of spots in my chest that ache that my chiropractor cant get to loosen up. Pain hurts.
Got in a hit and run car accident 8 months ago, drunk driver rear ended us doing 60+MPH When we were pulled over and stopped. Not sure how she didn't flip over from the impact. My buddy told me he saw wheels drive across the drivers side window. I didn't see that but I remember a really large jarring hit and then a shower…
Got another random email notification on this thread. Wow, I haven't seen that in ages! A lot happened over the last half year or so. I got into a bad car accident (not with the II) and have been recovering from that. During my recovery I managed to build a new engine for my car (just dove right in with Ford shop manuals…
I got a couple email updates for this thread randomly. I had a Headman on it up until a couple years ago. Also wow, I really need to properly update/completely rewrite the first post in the thread because none of those pictures are representative of what the car is now. As for adding a hood scoop, probably not in the…
Thanks, When I went back to fix it it looks like it posted ok so I have no idea what happened with it. Also on Friday I was giving a coworker a ride and he said he liked the gforce of acceleration and the way it puts you back in the seat. I haven't really noticed anything impressive but its nice to get feedback like that!!
Thanks!! Also, I found the picture of the inside of the header collector http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k113/Mark_Taylor87/Car%20Pictures/Tech/11792138_10207397116225124_1625640290886786086_o_zpsgam5hmbb.jpg
I get that it seems that is the modern definition of turning over as well as the many examples you gave of different terms. The way I remember learning about it as a young kid is, when starting an engine you crank it until it turns over, or fires. ( the memory that comes to mind is my uncle hand crank starting his 1947…
No, its a 390CFM (Holley list 6299-1) It was designed for 4 cylinder applications, and as such came stock with smaller (#50) jets on the primary side (currently #55), and a metering plate that is roughly the equivalent of #52 jets. My current specs are a ford 2.3, block bored .050 or 060 over, aforementioned Holley 390CFM…
An update: I finally installed the MSD Ignition system (coil, box and a recurved MSD distributor, I had an MSD coil already but it was the duraspark model and I had a new standard MSD coil id been trying to sell without any luck so I just swapped them) I've had put away for 2 or 3 years.. At the same time I also replaced…
Wow, things look different here! The one thing I really want to clean up under the hood is the wiring. The wire looms are cracking and brittle, faded, and just plain ugly to look at. I can also apparently get rid of the voltage regulator altogether if I change to a 1 wire 3G alternator, and I have an MSD 6AL ignition box…
The engine bay is filthy right now but what did you have in mind / want a closer look at? These are the only other recent pics I have, from the same day as the engine bay pic above.
Thanks. The car is has been back up and running for a couple weeks. I also pulled off the alternator bracket and timing belt cover and repainted them too I think the black paint I used on the bracket is a little too shiny. What do you all think?
Wow, Ive been gone for like 2 years. Work is busy... Anyway, Updates: I got the car painted last year, installed the chrome valve cover, and last week I overheated the engine a little and popped the headgasket waiting to get into a car show, so the new head is finally going on (I didn't want to pull apart a perfectly…
Another year gone and I'm not finished. Long days at work (peak time really wears on ya) are taking up the free time I had to work on this. One more week, and I'll have some time to work on all the projects piling up around here. The only thing I've had time to do was detail the interior about a month ago (dirt and dust…
Finally had some time to revisit this. I tried pulling the ram, and tried both by themselves in both slots and got the same error. I did some more searching online and found this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/244374-45-windows-install-halts-irql_not_less_or_equal (9th post on page). I Installed Nlite and am currently…
Speed doesn't kill!! Suddenly becoming stationary is what gets ya!!! 80MPH (130KPH) is my cruising speed on the highways around here, but the roads are smooth. Fastest I've gone around here is 123MPH (197KPH) but my average fun run is up to about 110MPH (177KPH) or so. Oh, and I think my tires are rated for 118MPH (190KPH)
Still haven't had time to work on this. Getting ready for peak @ work is a pain. System is still running fine after the restore. I'm hoping to have some time this weekend to revisit this. I'm pulling the 320 before I work on it to make sure I don't have any problems with potential data loss this time around. Yeah,…
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've been busy with work had no time to reply. Long days... I don't think the DVD drive is bad, although I've had it a while. The drive itself seems ok after running some diagnostics on it, and I was able to restore the partitions and made the drive bootable again. I want to get an extra…
At some point I'm probably going to redo the motor mounts and alternator bracket in black. I'm not liking the blue so much anymore (plus, its the wrong shade of Ford Blue for my model), and also install the chrome Ford Racing valve cover as well.
^^ Wow, now that really takes the cake!!! I just got a new header for the II. It has 1-5/8" to 1-3/4" stepped primaries with a 4 to 1 3" collector. This should really help with the top end!!!
Its certainly not the worst I've seen. My buddy's 79 F250 had half the (buss) fuses replaced with cut bolts or jumped with wires by the previous owner, and they had also run power for the gauges by wrapping wires around the bolts then putting them into the fuse block. It had a bunch of wires going nowhere as well just…
I finally replaced my broken windshield wiper/turn signal stalk (washer spray button broke) today. Simple enough on its own, but when I went up under the dash to unplug the harness I found some shoddy work from one of the previous owners. Someone tapped into the power wire for the windshield wipers to run acc power for the…
